5/15/2011 Amazing helpersI am continuously overwhelmed by the people who come out here to help and re-connect to their food! We had 17 people here yesterday, young and old, all enjoying the wind-blown look and experiencing farm life in spring cleanup mode.
We had a great day: cleaned out the chicken coop and Solviva, made a new access door, scrubbed the (very disgusting) mites etc. from the bottom of the roosts, took down the metal post fence and replaced it with electric, washed windows in the Solviva, moved the 27 chicks into it, planted 30 Pin Cherries in the Shelterbelt, and planted the "good winter storage" onions I had started months ago in the house. We also chatted, swapped stories and recipes and techniques and ideas for the future. What a great pool of knowledge and contacts we have. The only thing I missed was the pot luck at the end of the day... I guess people have other things to do on those precious Saturday nights! Kevin and I just relaxed and finished off the onion bed. I'll be cooking the rotisserie chicken today at lunch for the boys, who are coming here to help move some donated trusses from a friend's place nearby with Kevin. He'll be driving the hay wagon (also cleaned up and pumped up yesterday) down the back road with his tractor today so if you're traveling down Twp. Rd 510 beware of slow moving vehicles!!
